Description
"Impromptu" is a work for solo piano which originally arose as an improvisation. This composition by Ali Baghirov is assigned the 79th opus and is dedicated to Nurlana Alili.
A catchy introduction suddenly stops, and unexpected silence is followed by a brief flow of chords. First theme immediately after that was created as a reflection of authenticity of classical traditions of Azerbaijani music. Majestic and unremitting chord sequence is concluded with quiet passage, which serves as transition to the next theme.
Second theme is in explicit contrast with the first theme. Being less intense, it has a more contemplative and melodic nature. The 2nd theme, written overwhelmingly in e-minor, finishes in d-minor, thus returning to the previous key.
Then comes a tense transition, filled with rapid passages in the right hand, introducing a new, slow theme in d-minor. Final remarks of this theme transfer the listener to the modulation of the 1st theme (transposition into f-minor). The repetition of theme 2 now sounds in g-minor and concludes the whole composition.
